UK Tax Calculator
How can you estimate how much tax you will pay?
HMRC provides an official online calculator that can estimate Income Tax and National Insurance for employees during the current tax year.
For 2026–27, the tool covers the tax year from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027. (GOV.UK)
You enter information such as your income, and the calculator can estimate:
-
Income Tax;
-
National Insurance;
-
take-home pay;
-
pension contributions;
-
student loan repayments, where relevant.
What if you have more than one job?
HMRC says you should use the calculator separately for each job.
Is the calculator your final tax bill?
No.
A calculator gives an estimate. Your actual tax depends on factors such as:
-
your tax code;
-
Personal Allowance;
-
other income;
-
pension arrangements;
-
student loan status;
-
individual circumstances.
People registered for Self Assessment can use HMRC's separate Self Assessment tax calculator, although that calculator also has limitations and does not include every possible type of income or charge. (GOV.UK)
